Philippines is a country which is made up of around 7000 islands but out of them only 11 have been inhabited by most of the fast growing population of the country. Much of the country is mountainous and is endowed with abundant natural resources and some of the world's greatest biodiversity. In terms of population, it is ranked as the seventh-most populated country in Asia.
The Philippines has a democratic government in the form of a constitutional republic with a presidential system. The President functions as both head of state and head of government and is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The country is an active participant in the Human Rights Council as well as in peacekeeping missions, particularly in East Timor. Shared democratic values ease relations with Western and European countries while similar economic concerns help in relations with other developing countries.
Philippines is largely covered by mountainous terrains and most of them are covered in tropical rain forests. Due to the volcanic nature of the islands, mineral deposits are abundant. Considering the climate of this largely mountainous area, it is tropical maritime climate that is usually hot and humid. The culture of Philippines displays a combination of eastern and western countries. American, Chinese, Asian influences can be seen in wide array of ranging from culture to languages spoken to different cuisines.
